Chonluten is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Gly, also written EDG, and it is the bronchopulmonary member of the Khavinson short-peptide family. The target is respiratory tissue: the epithelial cells that line the bronchi and lungs. The Khavinson hypothesis is that peptides this small enter the cell, bind specific promoter regions of DNA, and regulate transcription of the proteins those cells build. In a 2014 study in Lung, Glu-Asp-Gly changed the expression of bronchoepithelial genes, including the club-cell, surfactant and mucin markers that define healthy airway lining, in human bronchoepithelial cell cultures (PMID 25015171). Russian reviews also tie EDG to stress-response genes and antioxidant enzymes in respiratory tissue. The honest part: this framework is internally coherent and well-documented in Soviet and Russian literature, but it has not been independently validated in mainstream Western molecular biology, and controlled human trials are scarce. Treat the mechanism as a serious hypothesis, not settled fact.
