What to Stack With Modafinil
Modafinil needs very little added to it. Most of what gets called a stack is unnecessary, and the few things worth adding are unglamorous.

The short answer
Modafinil does not need much added to it. The genuinely useful adjuncts are L-theanine, which smooths out any edge or jitter, choline, which helps if modafinil or a racetam gives you a headache, and plain water and electrolytes, since modafinil is mildly dehydrating and appetite suppressing and people routinely under drink on it. Protecting sleep matters more than any supplement. Caffeine stacks fine with modafinil but is often redundant and mostly adds jitter. Most elaborate modafinil stacks are unnecessary, and the honest advice is to keep it simple.
The honest starting point
Modafinil is designed to work on its own. It is not a compound that needs a support cast to function, and most of what gets marketed as a modafinil stack is unnecessary complexity layered onto something that already does its job alone. The short list below covers the additions that actually earn a place, and it is a short list on purpose.
L-theanine for the edge
Some people get a slight wired or jittery feeling on modafinil, particularly at the start of the window. L-theanine is the most commonly used adjunct for smoothing that out, without pulling back the wakefulness itself. It is not necessary for everyone, but for anyone who notices an edge, it is the first thing worth trying before reaching for anything more complicated.
Choline if you get headaches
Headache is one of the more common modafinil side effects, and it also shows up with racetams like phenylpiracetam. A choline source is the standard response if that happens. It is not something everyone needs, it is specifically for people who notice the headache and want a straightforward way to address it rather than reducing their dose.
Water, electrolytes, and sleep
Modafinil is mildly dehydrating and can suppress appetite, and both effects are easy to miss during a long focused day. People routinely forget to drink enough water or eat properly while modafinil is holding fatigue and hunger cues back, and the end of day fatigue people blame on a crash is often partly this. Protecting sleep matters just as much. Modafinil holds a window open, it does not replace the rest that window is borrowing against.
What to skip
Caffeine stacks fine with modafinil in the sense that nothing dangerous happens, but it is usually redundant since modafinil is already covering the wakefulness job, and adding caffeine on top mostly just adds jitter without adding much real benefit. Beyond L-theanine, choline, and basic hydration, most elaborate modafinil stacks are solving a problem that was not there to begin with.

Common questions
Do I need to stack anything with modafinil?
No, not by default. Modafinil is built to work on its own. The useful additions are L-theanine for jitter, choline if you get headaches, and enough water, and even those are situational rather than mandatory.
Should I add caffeine to modafinil?
You can, but it is usually redundant since modafinil already covers the wakefulness job, and caffeine on top mostly adds jitter rather than meaningful extra benefit.
Why do I feel worse by the end of a modafinil day?
Often it is under drinking water or skipping meals, since modafinil can suppress appetite and thirst cues without you noticing. It can also be accumulated sleep debt rather than anything a stack would fix.
